I'm raising money in support of combatting Pancreatic Cancer by participating in the epic Seven Days Ride.
Along with my team of fellow cyclists/fundraisers, I'll be riding 1120 kms over 7 consecutive days - that's the equivalent of an imperial century (160 km or 100 miles) per day. This year's event will take place in southwestern Ontario starting and ending in Guelph. It will be the second consecutive year that I ride the event to raise funds and awareness of pancreatic cancer
Why? Because the statistics are staggering:
- Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers
- The 5-year relative survival rate is 10%. That means that 90% of Canadians diagnosed with pancreatic cancer will die
- 70% of patients do not survive past the first year
- For these patients and their families, a pancreatic cancer diagnosis is traumatic and brings overwhelming day-to-day and emotional challenges
- Pancreatic cancer is currently the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Canada, yet it continues to be underfunded, overlooked, and outpaced in research
I'll be posting to this blog from time to time to give you an update on my progress as well random thoughts on cycling, bike maintenance, volunteering, running, and other activities that I find myself engaging in
By making a donation, you are helping to make a difference in the lives of patients who have been diagnosed and their families
Pancreatic cancer has affected every on of us in some fashion. I'd love for you to make a donation to this very worthy initiative today and help make a meaningful difference in the lives of those undergoing treatment of this horrid disease
Take care,
Dan
